To help raise awareness and encourage more Hoosiers to consider fostering, adopting or helping local families, House lawmakers are partnering with the Indiana Association of Resources and Child Advocacy and its Institute for Excellence, a nonprofit organization serving more than 4,600 Hoosier children every day.
Almost 60 percent of all kids entering the child welfare system are under 6 years old, and many of these children leave their homes with only the clothes on their backs or what they can fit into a trash bag. Now through the end of January, we are hosting a donation drive to collect needed items like diapers and blankets for foster families caring for newborns and infants.
Not everyone can foster or adopt a child, but anyone can help a child in need. To learn about all the ways you can help, visit www.FosterHopeIndiana.org.
At any given time, there are nearly 150 children up for adoption in Indiana. Visit www.in.gov/dcs to learn the stories of those looking for a place to call home.
