Heading back to school is a fun and exciting time for kids, and many Hoosiers will notice more school buses on the road. It’s important to exercise extra caution around buses and in school zones to avoid accidents and injuries.
When a school bus makes a stop to pick up or drop off children, state law requires all motorists to stop. Buses with flashing red lights and extended stop signs mean students are boarding or exiting, and drivers from all directions must stop, unless the road is divided by a physical barrier.
You should also be on the lookout for increased pedestrian traffic, particularly around bus stops and schools. Remember to drive carefully and be patient as students go to school.
