Our community and surrounding areas will receive some much-needed road improvements as a result of the recent passage of a statewide road funding plan. With this new state funding, the governor recently kicked off Indiana’s Next Level Roads initiative and released upcoming road construction projects.
As a result of the comprehensive road funding package, which I supported, Marion County will receive over $251 million and Johnson County will receive more than $177 million in dictated funds over the next five years for Indiana Department of Transportation projects. Local projects will include resurfacing nearly 400 lane miles of pavement and repairing or replacing approximately 85 bridges.
Our economy is impacted by the condition of our roads and bridges, so it was important that we invested wisely in our infrastructure without incurring debt or placing the financial burden on future generations. These new projects will increase safety, prevent everyday wear and tear on our vehicles, and serve as a boon for our economy.
I look forward to seeing the various infrastructure improvement projects occurring throughout our community as we take Indiana to the ‘next level.’
